Brighton’s Grand Hotel sold to Israeli firm behind the Leonardo hotel chain in deal worth up to £60m

The Brighton hotel bombed by the IRA throughout the 1984 Conservative Party convention has been sold for up to £60million by the household behind Fortnum & Mason and Primark.

The five-star Grand Hotel, which was badly broken in the assault, has been purchased by Fattal Group, an Israeli firm behind the Leonardo chain of resorts in the UK and Ireland.

The Grand, which overlooks Brighton’s seafront, was owned by the billionaire Weston household behind Fortnum & Mason and Primark proprietor Associated British Foods.

The 158-year-old hotel has seen the beginning of an Indian prince in 1933 and is the place Abba stayed after successful the 1974 Eurovision music contest. 

The Grand has additionally featured in motion pictures and TV exhibits together with Only Fools & Horses and Brighton cult movie Quadrophenia.

The Weston household purchased it in 2014 for an estimated £50million from the De Vere hotel group. 

And the hotel, with 201 rooms over seven flooring, is now set for a big refurbishment. Its new proprietor Fattal stated it should ‘make investments considerably’ in the property to bolster its iconic standing.

In October Fattal purchased the historic Piccadilly hotel in central London, which as soon as boasted King George V as a visitor.
