Today’s shooting on the City of Hope Hospital Campus

One of the first patients of William Dale, M.D., Ph.D. A 90-year-old breast cancer survivor needed pain management assistance at City of Hope. Dale impresses her so much that she hires him as her family doctor.

“He’s a fantastic doctor,” she said. “It was difficult.” Dr. Dale, on the other hand, did not give up. He attempted everything. He was extremely knowledgeable and caring. “I had faith in him.”

Dale, the Arthur M. Coppola Family Chair of Supportive Care Medicine and Director of the Center for Cancer and Aging, takes the trust of older patients very seriously. Indeed, he has made it a cornerstone of his career.

“I grew up enjoying spending time with adults and older people,” he explained. “My parents were very complimentary about it.” He recalls his grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ wonderful stories. “I’m blown away by her story and her grasp of history. “They have so many wonderful stories to tell me.”
