The wife of Deputy Inspector Gopal Das, who fatally shot Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, stated that her husband had been afflicted with a mental disorder for seven or eight years. Ms. Jayanti stated that she now knew of any personal grudge between Gopal and the minister. Gopal is taking medication and appears healthy. Before Gopal shot the minister on Sunday morning, he made a video call to his daughter.
Injuries caused the minister’s death in the evening. “During surgery, it was determined that a bullet had entered and exited the body, causing damage to the heart and left lung as well as massive internal bleeding and injuries. The wound was treated, and measures were taken to improve heart pumping. He was given urgent care in the intensive care unit. But despite that, we did our best,” Apollo Hospital said in a statement.
Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested that Interpol investigate the assassination of the minister of health. A team from the Odisha Criminal Department, led by a senior police officer, travelled to the location of the incident in Brajarajnagar, Jharsuguda district. Health Minister Naba Das was discharged from the Gandhi Bazaar hospital at approximately 12.30 p.m., en route to a programme.
The PTI news agency released a video depicting the moment after the minister was shot and fell to the ground with left breast injuries. After he was shot, footage showed people attempting to place him in a car. Apollo Hospital admitted Naba Das after he flew from Jasuguda to Bhubaneswar. The Prime Minister conducted a hospital inspection.
After shooting the minister, local residents apprehended and turned over Gopal Das to the police. Despite being transferred from the accident site to the Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital, the minister of health was not admitted to the state’s government hospital.
Naba Das is a Jharsuguda strongman with ties to the Congress in the past. Ahead of the 2019 midterm elections, he switched to the BJD. Naba Das is the second-wealthiest minister in the state, following Naveen Patnaik.
