The students were released early Monday afternoon following the discovery of a “non-responsive individual” in the area, school officials informed parents in a letter Monday night. They reported that schools had been locked down.
The letter stated, “Students remain in classrooms for the remainder of the school day.” Additional measures have been taken to ensure that students are always safe and supervised.
The report says that adults walked the students through the hallway, and “classroom shutters and hallway windows were covered to limit exposure to the conditions.”
All Cornell events, including those preceding and following childcare, were cancelled on Tuesday. On Wednesday, when classes resume, counsellors will be available to assist students in need of emotional support, according to officials.
The letter states, “Death can be difficult to comprehend, especially when it occurs around us.” “Many of us will experience a variety of emotions, including shock, sadness, and even some confusion. “What’s important is that we watch out for one another and support one another.”
School officials wrote in the letter that police had determined there was no active threat to the public and were investigating the death as a suicide.
