Tuesday night, ranked men’s and women’s basketball teams from Pierre High School defeated Watertown in the South Dakota Eastern Conference.
No. 3 Watertown was defeated 64-46 by Pierre Boys in Watertown.The fourth-ranked Governors defeated the fifth-ranked Arrows 51-29 in Pierre.
The score was tied at 20-20 for the majority of the first half before the Governors went on an 11-2 run to end the half. In the third quarter, Pierre extended his lead with a 17-8 advantage.
Lincoln Kinholz, an Ohio State football recruit, led the administration with 17 points. Benjamin Heisler scored 15 points, whereas Jackson Edman scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Pierre shot 65% from the field (24 of 37) and had a 21-17 advantage in rebounds.
Kohen Kranz missed four 3-pointers and led Watertown to a 14-point loss. Dylon Rawdon, Caden Beauchamp, and Dalton Baumberger added eight points each. Jack Olson contributed five boards. The Arrows’ accuracy was 38% (15 for 40).
The girls of Pierre also achieved victory under heavy fire. The Governors shot 22-of-35 (63%) from the field, while Watertown shot 6-of-21 (29%) from the field.
A quarter later, Pierre’s lead grew to 16-8 thanks to 12 points from Ayvrie Kaiser, 11 points from Reese Terdlinger, and 10 points from Remington Price.
Watertown was led by Emery Thury’s 8 points and 4 steals. Maddy Rohde and Jaida Young each scored six points.
The Arrows play Brandon Vale on January 3 (Tuesday. Boys play at home, while girls play at Brandon’s.
