Man, 19, charged after police say homemade explosive set off in Newmarket, Ont., mall

NEWMARKET, Ont. – A 19-year-old man is going through a number of expenses after police say a homemade explosive went off in the meals courtroom of a mall in Newmarket, north of Toronto.

York Regional Police say they had been known as to a mall close to Yonge Street and Davis Drive round 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and located a homemade explosive that had detonated.

They say nobody was damage.

Police allege the suspect positioned the explosive in a planter field and took off earlier than officers arrived.

They say the canine unit tracked him down shortly afterward.

The suspect is charged with a number of offences, together with arson with disregard for human life, use of explosive with intent and illegal possession of explosives.
